This specialization (40 hours) comprises  the following items spread over 5 teaching days.

Lesson day 1 (4 + 4 hours)

1. Specific features of mediation in Family Affairs
2. Introduction to International Mediation in Family Matters; multicultural mediation and family mediation at a distance via digital platforms.

Lesson day 2 (4 + 4 hours)

1. Matrimonial property law and inheritance law ;
2. Procedures
   1. Conciliation proceedings before the family court;
   2. Legal proceedings in family matters;
3. Consequences of the rules of public order and mandatory law;

Lesson day 3 (4 + 4 hours)

1. Principles of law concerning:
   • Marriage, legal and actual cohabitation ;
   • Divorce and legal separation, de facto separation
   • Parental relations (parental authority, personal relations, housing modalities, etc.);
2. Maintenance obligations:
   • Contribution to the maintenance and upbringing costs of children (concepts of ordinary costs, extraordinary costs, special costs), calculation methods maintenance contribution between ex-spouses, calculation methods.

Lesson day 4 (4 + 4 hours)

1. Psychology and Sociology
   • Psychology and Sociology in Relation to Families;
   • Psychological effects of family conflicts;
2. Family relationships and family dynamics ;
3. Place of the child and the young person in mediation.
4. Role-playing and specific tools and interventions

Lesson day 5 (4 + 4 hours)

1. Psychology and Sociology
   • Family relationships and family dynamics ;
   • Place of the child and of the young person in mediation.
2. Role-playing and specific tools and interventions

Effectiveness of learning is determined by:

1. 10% is induced by knowledge transfer.
   This is the classic way of teaching.
   The mediation course offers the required knowledge (legal, sociological and psychological insights) and skills (communication, negotiation)
2. 20% is induced by practicing the theory with feedback. Examples include case discussions and role plays.
   The mediation training ensures extensive and intensive discussion of the experience gained through extensive case discussions and role plays.
3. 70% is induced and therefore effectively integrated and applied by applying ‘on the job’ with guidance and appropriate feedback.
   Within the framework of intervision, supervision and continuous training, the opportunity is offered to discuss, evaluate and deepen experiences from one’s own practice.
